Why are fireworks so bad for the environment?

Here's a short answer: Fireworks are bad for the environment because when they go off, they release harmful toxins and chemicals, metal particles, and smoke in the air. In addition to that, the particles stay in the air for a period of time such as hours or days, or maybe even a week. So where do these particles go? Well, it really depends, if you're in a rural area, they might go into valleys, and pollute and block flowing streams or bodies of water causing damage for decades to come. If you're in an urban area, fireworks can burn down buildings, and scare many people. Plus, they make so much smoke, sometimes it is very difficult to see.

So, as I may have mentioned before, my family personally does not do fireworks on Independence Day. I'm not saying that I'm banding fireworks for everyone, you can still enjoy nearby shows, but if you don't use fireworks and convince others to do the same, maybe our planet would be a healthier place.

Here our some alternatives to fireworks that my family uses so we can still enjoy Independence Day and New Years:

  • laser/light shows

  • eco-friendly glow-sticks

  • colorful water sprinklers

Fireworks cost a lot, so these were just some cheaper and more sustainable options!

That's it for today! See you in my next blog post!!! Until then, remember that one person can make a difference, and together we can change the world.

Sincerely,

Alizay
